Courtney Comer

With 15 years of experience in employee relations, marketing communications and PR, Courtney's current responsibilities include grant writing, website content development, board relations and fundraising for the project. Most recently, Courtney was director of employee communications for Sara Lee Corporation, where she helped create the first-ever corporate employee communications function for the Fortune 500 company. She also held internal communications and public relations positions at McDonald's Corporation, Hill and Knowlton and GolinHarris.

Courtney became interested in and involved with the anti-violence movement while serving on the board of Rape Victim Advocates in Chicago. She is a strong believer in the power of arts and humanities to effect social change. What inspires her most about The Voices and Faces Project is seeing the creativity and passion of survivors, and that their beautiful faces and stories can emerge in spite of living through such devastating trauma.

"Our project focuses on educating the broader public on the long-term consequences of sexual violence, but it is also about helping survivors heal," says Courtney. "Expression of healing can come in many forms - through art, essay, poetry, music, video, photography. Ultimately our message is about hope, and helping survivors realize they are not alone."
