Christa Desir

Christa is a survivor participant, and as director of operations handles all financial and operational aspects of The Voices and Faces Project. Christa's passion for social justice combined with her everyday business know-how ensures that the project not only runs smoothly but also adheres to its mission.

Christa began her advertising career at EURO RSCG Tatham and then went into production at Leo Burnett Company. Following Burnett she became chief financial officer and business manager for Steve Ford Music. Since having two small children a few years ago, Christa has freelanced as a bookkeeper and business manager for several different companies.

For the past 10 years, Christa has devoted her free time to rape crisis and domestic violence issues, having served on the board of Rape Victim Advocates and as a counseling intern at the Chicago Women’s Health Center.

She credits The Voices and Faces Project for helping establish connections with other survivors. "Once I started to talk to women who had gone through this, I felt for the first time that I was part of a community. Other sexual assault survivors are like family - a different kind of family, but a family to me all the same," explains Christa.

In her spare time Christa also is working toward a Masters in Social Work. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Grinnell College.
